BDU's originated with the U.S. military during Viet Nam. Those listed in this section are non-GI... not United States government issue . If you are looking for genuine issue, click here.. For SWAT
& Tactical BDU's, click here. Non-GI means that although these are commercially made to military specs of US material ..are 60/40 cotton/poly twill and are what was originally known as the heavy weight, they are no longer issued by the government to the personnel. This is a heavy weight cotton/polyester blended cloth in a twill weave. A sturdy, long-life performer this twill also promotes good color integrity and easy care. They are a durable and rugged item.
The heavy weight is used by hunters and outdoorsmen as well as law enforcement. Some of the Army National Guard units still have woodland camouflague as the winter wear (the reserves and guard are normally the last ones in line to get new items). We only stock the 100% ripstop cotton in khaki & OD...the other colors fade quickly. This lighter weight cloth in a ripstop weave breathes well and is initially durable. As with all cotton fabrics, color will fade, and over time the cotton fibers will lose their strength under heavy wear and laundering.
